Music Legend Runa Laila Charms Sold-Out Dhaka Audience
Music legend Runa Laila performed a special solo concert at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The 700-seat National Theatre Hall was completely full. All tickets sold out on the first day. This showed the great love people have for her music.
Runa Laila took the stage shortly after 7:30 pm. She first honored those who died for the Bengali language. She then opened the concert with a patriotic song. She performed 11 songs. These included her popular hits and a new Nazrul song.
The audience applauded and cheered strongly. Runa Laila also shared fun stories from her long career. Her humor and talks made the evening more engaging. This was her first full solo concert at the academy. She joked about finally being invited after a 62-year career.
Runa Laila recalled her first stage performance at age six in Karachi. Her sister fell ill, and young Runa Laila took her place. That moment started her amazing musical journey.
Over 62 years, Runa Laila has recorded over 10,000 songs. She began her career at 14. She has sung in 18 languages. She is truly one of the greatest singers of the subcontinent.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Cultural Affairs Minister, honored Runa Laila. He praised her lasting music contribution. He said her songs have a special place in people’s hearts. Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, State Minister, also spoke about honoring great artists.
All money from ticket sales will go to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. This will help people affected by floods. The concert ended with her famous song “Dama Dam Mast Qalandar.” It was a memorable night celebrating music and a great artist.
