Global Stage to Local Impact: MasterChef Finalist Empowers Young Bangladeshi Chefs
Kishwar Chowdhury, a popular finalist from MasterChef Australia, is now helping young people in Bangladesh. She uses her passion for Bengali food to create new opportunities. Her initiative, Kishwar’s Culinary Cohort WINGS, or KCC WINGS, gives culinary training. It also helps find jobs for young people from Dhaka’s Korail area.
Viqarunnisa Alumni Australia, known as VAAUS, recently hosted an event. It was named “Flavours of Home.” This event celebrated Bengali culture and heritage. It also supported KCC WINGS. VAAUS gave AUD 5,000 to KCC WINGS. This money will help train the next generation of chefs.
Kishwar Chowdhury showed simple Bengali dishes to a global audience. These included panta bhat and alu bhorta. Her journey on MasterChef Australia inspired many. Her son’s suggestion pushed her to apply for the show. She believes food brings people together.
Her love for cooking began in her childhood. Family gatherings were big events in her home. Neighbours and relatives often visited without invitation. These experiences taught her the true power of food.
Kishwar’s book, “Smoke, Rice, Water,” shares recipes and family stories. She wants to preserve these memories. She also wants food to create new chances. This led her to start KCC WINGS. The program offers training and mentorship. It provides clear career paths for underserved youth.
VAAUS was formed in 2017. Its goal is to connect former students. It also aims to make a positive impact on society. The group has supported many organizations in Australia. Now, VAAUS is extending its work to Bangladesh.
Kishwar Chowdhury expressed her gratitude for the donation. She said VAAUS invested in someone else’s future. Suranjana Jennifer Rahman, a former VAAUS president, also spoke. She said true education creates meaningful change. The “Flavours of Home” event turned shared heritage into real help for young people.
