AI Transforms Jobs: How to Choose University Studies for the Future
Students starting university today will graduate in about four years. By then, the job market will look very different. Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing work in all fields. This makes choosing a subject for study a very important decision.
ABM Shawkat Ali, who is the vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), shared his thoughts. He has a PhD in artificial intelligence. He explained how students can choose wisely for the future.
Many students feel confused about what path to take. Technology, especially AI, is making this decision more complex. A report from the World Economic Forum shows big changes ahead. By 2030, 170 million new jobs will appear worldwide. However, about 92 million existing jobs will disappear. This means about 78 million new jobs will be added overall.
The report highlights which jobs will grow fastest. Big data specialists will see 110 percent growth. Fintech engineers will grow by 90 percent. AI and machine learning specialists will increase by 82 percent. Software developers, security experts, and data scientists also show strong demand. This proves that technology-related skills are becoming very important.
AI is not only for computer science students. Its use is growing in almost every field. These include business, medicine, farming, law, and journalism. For example, AI helps doctors find diseases. It helps farmers predict how much food they will grow. Learning about technology is now essential for everyone.
Students should also learn basic skills like data analysis or programming. These will help in any career. It is important to understand AI technology. We need to learn how to use it well instead of being afraid.
Students must also develop skills that AI cannot easily copy. These include leadership, clear communication, and creative thinking. Problem-solving and building relationships with people are also key. Learning should not stop after university. People must be ready to keep learning new things throughout their lives.
Vice-chancellor Ali also gave advice to parents. Do not pressure children too much to study one specific subject. Instead, help them learn to adapt to change. Focus on their real interests and desire to learn. This is more valuable than just good exam results.
Choosing a study path means finding a balance. Students should consider their interests, abilities, and the future job market. Technology will keep changing, and jobs will change too. But the desire to learn new skills and adapt will always be important. Students who prepare for an AI-driven world today will succeed tomorrow.
