Water Halts Chittagong University Trains, Stranding Students

Shuttle train services to Chittagong University (CU) stopped on Monday morning. This happened because heavy rain caused waterlogging on the railway tracks. Hundreds of students faced difficulties reaching their classes. The sudden halt left many stranded and unable to attend university.

Two trains left Battali station in the city for the university on Monday. Both trains became stuck at Sholoshahar station. The first train departed Battali station for the university at 7:15 am.

Imranur Rahman, an Economics student, was on this first train. He said, “I left for the university on the first train in the morning. However, the train stopped after reaching Sholoshahar.” Mr. Rahman later learned that services were stopped. Water had collected on the railway tracks, causing the problem.

He added that attending classes was out of the question. “We were instead left in trouble,” he stated. Many other students traveling on the shuttle train faced the same difficult situation.

Railway sources confirmed details about the second train. It left Battali station for the university at 7:40 am. This train also became stranded at Sholoshahar. The first train was supposed to return to the city from the university station at 8:40 am.

Md Main Uddin is the Sholoshahar Station Master. He confirmed that a large amount of water had accumulated. This water was on the railway tracks between Sholoshahar and Cantonment stations. “Normal shuttle train services could not run,” Mr. Uddin said. He added that efforts are being made to restart the train services soon.

Professor Md Kamrul Hossain, a university Assistant Proctor, spoke on Monday morning. He said the university is working to help the stranded students. “Efforts are under way to bring them to the campus by bus,” he explained. The university is trying to ensure students can reach their classes safely.
