Bangladesh and China Plan Major Boost in Education Exchange
On Wednesday, Mahdi Amin, the Prime Minister’s Education Adviser, said education can greatly strengthen ties between Bangladesh and China. He believes student exchanges are a very effective way to build closer bonds between the people of both nations. Mr. Amin spoke at the China-Bangladesh Education Exchange Conference in Guangzhou, China.
The conference took place at South China Normal University. Mr. Amin, who is also the spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, discussed new chances for Bangladeshi students. They will have more opportunities to study and do research in China. Chinese students could also visit Bangladesh to join summer schools and academic programs.
The meeting concluded with a strong promise from both countries. They want to expand university cooperation and academic exchanges. They also aim for long-term educational partnerships. Earlier that day, four key areas were discussed. These included study opportunities for Bangladeshi students in China and cooperation between universities. Joint research and skills development were also on the agenda.
Mr. Amin said Bangladesh is working with Chinese institutions. They want to improve the study environment and facilities for Bangladeshi students already in China. He stressed that simply sending students abroad is not enough. He called for more joint research, sharing of laboratories, and technology transfer.
Chinese universities are known for their research and high global rankings. Mr. Amin stated that Bangladesh can learn from China’s experience. This is especially true in technical education and polytechnic training. He also urged stronger academic links with top Chinese universities. This includes focusing on technical education and Chinese language learning.
The adviser suggested creating Chinese language centers in Bangladesh. Chinese universities could help by providing skilled teachers and study materials. He also invited Chinese government and university officials to visit Bangladesh. This would help them understand Bangladesh’s education sector better. It would also help them explore long-term cooperation.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon called for deeper partnerships. He mentioned joint research, scholarships, and student exchanges. Short-term training and joint Master’s and PhD programs are also important.
Xu Shimin, the Guangdong Provincial Chief Inspector of Education, welcomed more Bangladeshi students. He confirmed Guangdong province’s commitment to international education. In the 2024-25 academic year, 261 Bangladeshi students studied in Guangdong. Twenty students received Guangdong government scholarships in 2025.
Minister Milon and Mr. Amin are currently on a three-day official visit to China. They are attending discussions on technical and vocational education.
