Government Approves New Pay Scale: Salary Increases Begin July 1
Millions of government employees in Bangladesh will soon receive higher salaries. The government today approved a new pay scale for them. This new system will begin gradually from July 1 this year.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman led a Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat today, Monday. During this important meeting, the new pay scale received approval. Later, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani explained the details at a press conference. He spoke at the Department of Information.
The new basic salaries will increase in three different steps. These steps will happen between July this year and 2027. However, all new allowances will be paid later, starting from January 1, 2028.
The government has decided to focus first on employees in Grades 10 to 20. This decision considers the financial needs of lower-income employees. Providing support to them is a priority.
Employees in Grades 10 to 20 will see their basic salary increase in three parts. Fifty percent of the new basic salary will start in the first phase. This phase will cover the first six months from July this year. Another 25 percent will be added from January 2027. The final 25 percent will come from July 2027. This means these employees will get 50 percent more basic salary in the first phase. In the second phase, their total increase will reach 75 percent. By the third phase, they will receive 100 percent of the new basic salary.
For employees in higher Grades, from 1 to 9, the increase also happens in three steps. Forty percent of their higher basic salary will start from July 1 this year. Thirty percent more will be added from January 1, 2027. The last 30 percent will come from July 1, 2027.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani further explained the phased implementation. He confirmed that the new basic salaries would be rolled out over three stages. He stated that the full basic salary increase would be complete by the end of 2027. From 2028, all employees will receive both their new full basic salaries and their new allowances together.
