Dhaka Experiences Multiple Fires and Explosions Over Weekend

Dhaka witnessed a series of concerning incidents over the past weekend. Two passenger buses caught fire in Mirpur on Saturday evening. This happened as many explosions were reported across different parts of the capital. These blasts occurred on Friday and Saturday.

One bus from Shikor Paribahan caught fire in Mirpur-11 on Saturday around 7:15 PM. Fire Service officials confirmed this incident. Two fire units quickly arrived and put out the flames. No one was hurt in the fire. Officials believe a mechanical problem caused the fire in the moving bus.

At almost the same time, another bus from Abhijat Paribahan also caught fire. This incident occurred in the Mirpur-1 Ansar Camp area. Locals acted fast and helped to extinguish the fire immediately. Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman confirmed this. No injuries were reported in this second bus fire either.

Earlier, on Friday, several explosions shook the city. After Jummah prayers, two blasts happened near the Sohag bus counter in Malibagh. Later that day, at 6:15 PM, an explosion occurred in Agargaon, near Betar Bhaban. Another blast was reported in Mohakhali around 6:30 PM.

The incidents continued into Friday night. Around 8:00 PM, an explosion took place under the Babubazar Bridge. Another blast hit the Moghbazar intersection around 9:00 PM. A cocktail explosion also happened at 7:30 PM in front of Jatrabari Police Station. Soon after, three more cocktail explosions occurred at the Jatrabari intersection. These blasts injured an auto-rickshaw driver named Ibadur Rahman.

Later on Friday night, around 11:00 PM, two cocktail explosions occurred. They were reported near the BTV building in Rampura. Around midnight, another explosion happened in front of Dhaka College in the New Market area.

Police have opened cases in different stations regarding these incidents. However, officers have not yet identified who is responsible for the blasts. Following these events, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has increased security throughout the city. Police have set up checkpoints at key locations, flyovers, and entry points for searches. Patrols and monitoring efforts have also been strengthened across Dhaka.
