Australia Commits BDT 1.55 Billion for Vital Rohingya Refugee Aid

Australia has committed AUD18 million to help Rohingya refugees. This money is about BDT 1.55 billion. It will also help their host communities in Bangladesh. Australia signed a new agreement with BRAC, a large local aid organization.

Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle signed the agreement. BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh also signed it. Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu was present during the signing.

The funding will provide help for several years. It will support important services for Rohingya refugees. These services will be in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char. They will also benefit the local host communities.

BRAC will offer many types of support. This includes healthcare and clean water. They will also provide education and sanitation services. Other areas of help are disaster risk management, skills training, and protection services. This aid will reach refugee camps and nearby host communities.

A special part of the agreement is BRAC’s localisation fund. This fund will help local organizations. It aims to make national aid partners stronger. The fund will help deliver services effectively and widely. It will also reach camps that do not have enough help.

This new agreement is part of a bigger Australian aid plan. This plan is worth AUD370 million, about BDT 31.6 billion. It covers the years 2026 to 2028. This larger package will support Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh. It will also help people affected by the crisis in Myanmar.

Since 2017, Australia has given a lot of humanitarian aid. The country has spent AUD1.26 billion, about BDT 107.7 billion. This money was for the regional crisis.

Australia continues to help the Bangladesh government. It supports providing aid to displaced Rohingyas and their host communities. The Australian government believes that getting essential support is very important for the Rohingya people. This is true until they can return to Myanmar safely and with dignity. Their return must also be voluntary and lasting.
