AI Cameras to Begin Automatic Fines on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway
Thousands of drivers use the busy Dhaka-Chattogram highway every day. Now, advanced technology will help make this road much safer. The Highway Police is introducing an ‘auto fine system’ using artificial intelligence (AI). This new system will start automatic action against traffic violations from August 18.
The Highway Police announced this new plan in a press release today. The goal is to make highways safer and improve traffic rules. It will also help take action against drivers who break traffic laws.
The new system will use AI-powered cameras. These cameras will identify vehicles that break traffic rules. They will automatically start cases against them. For example, vehicles speeding, parking illegally, or driving on the wrong side will be caught.
After a violation, the registered owner of the vehicle will get an SMS. This message will go to their mobile phone. It will tell them about the case details. Vehicle owners can then pay their fines easily. They can use special mobile banking services like bKash and Nagad.
Fully automated AI cameras are being used on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway for the first time. Semi-automated AI cameras already manage traffic in Dhaka city. This new system will monitor about 250 kilometers of the highway. A total of 1,427 cameras have been installed for this purpose.
The system is already running on a trial basis. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed is expected to officially start the initiative. The Highway Police said this technology will quickly find traffic violations. It will also store information and collect fines faster. This process will be more transparent and accurate.
The Highway Police hopes this system will make people more aware of traffic laws. It should also improve discipline on the highway. This will help reduce road accidents. The Highway Police asks for cooperation from passengers, transport owners, and workers.
