Bangladesh Government Employees: New Salaries Start, Allowances Wait

Government employees in Bangladesh will begin receiving their increased basic salaries this month. However, their allowances will continue at existing rates. This will remain until a new order is issued.

The Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance released a notification today, Monday. It confirmed that allowances will stay at the rates applied on June 30 this year. This decision covers employees in all government ministries, divisions, and agencies. It also includes state-owned and autonomous institutions.

The government has said that allowances will be paid as a percentage of existing basic salaries. This will happen until the basic salaries outlined in the Service (Pay and Allowances) Order 2026 are fully in effect. The main order for pay and allowances was issued on September 19.

Under the new national pay scale, the minimum basic salary is Tk 20,000. The maximum basic salary is Tk 156,000. This new pay scale officially started on July 1. However, the government decided to implement the full salary increases in phases.

Salaries and allowances will be introduced in stages over the 2026-27 and 2027-28 financial years. Basic salaries will be paid in three steps. The first step covers July 1 to December 31 this year. The second step is from January 1 to June 30, 2027. The third step runs from July 1 to December 31, 2027. New allowances will start from January 1, 2028.

The process to determine government employees’ salaries online is almost complete. Employees have been entering their information through the ‘Pay Fixation’ option in the iBAS++ system since October 5. This online process is expected to finish tomorrow, Tuesday.

Finance Division sources said government employees will receive their new, higher salaries by the end of this month. The government has already set aside the necessary funds in the budget for this purpose.
