Bangladesh Ministry Reveals New School Admission Rules for 2027

The Ministry of Education in Bangladesh has issued a new policy for government secondary school admissions. This policy will apply to the 2027 academic year. It brings important changes for students seeking admission from Class One to Class Nine.

Schools can admit students based on available seats. Each class section will have a maximum of 55 students. To enter Class One, a child must be six years old or more. On January 1 of the admission year, the child’s age must be between five and seven years.

For Class One admissions, a digital lottery system will be used. Parents can choose up to five schools for their child. If they apply to the same school more than once, all their applications will be cancelled. The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education will manage this lottery. They will ensure it is fair and open to all.

For Classes Two to Nine, students will need to take written exams. The exams will test their knowledge in Bangla, English, and Mathematics. For Classes Two to Five, the exam will be 50 marks and last one hour. For Classes Six to Nine, it will be 100 marks and last two hours.

A waiting list will be prepared after the lottery or written exams. If selected students do not enroll, schools will offer seats to those on the waiting list. Children with special needs can get an age allowance of up to five years. Applicants must provide a copy of their birth certificate.

The online application fee for Class One is Tk 110. For Classes Two to Nine, it is Tk 250. Schools must follow the Ministry of Education’s rules for other admission fees. Admission notices will be published by headteachers. They will announce available seats and other details.

The new policy also includes several quotas. Ten percent of Class Six seats are for students from independent government primary schools. In Dhaka city, 40 percent of seats are for students living nearby. Five percent of seats are for children of freedom fighters. Two percent are for students with special needs.

Children of Ministry of Education staff also have two percent of seats reserved. Three percent of seats are for siblings already in the school or new twin applicants. These reserved seats must be filled. If not, general applicants will fill them. Schools must publish all selection lists clearly. They must follow these new rules strictly.
