Bangladesh Plans to Acquire Chinese J-10CE Fighter Jets
Bangladesh is moving ahead with plans to buy Chinese-made J-10CE fighter jets. These jets are for the Bangladesh Air Force. Zahed Ur Rahman, the Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser, announced this. He spoke at a press briefing in Dhaka on Tuesday.
This purchase is part of a larger plan to modernize the Bangladesh Air Force. The government also aims to acquire other advanced fourth-generation MRCA aircraft. Attack helicopters, VIP helicopters, and UAV systems are also planned. Mr. Rahman said these procurements will happen if funds are available. They will be included in the current year’s budget or the next.
A draft agreement has been prepared for the negotiation meetings. This agreement covers the J-10CE fighter jets and attack helicopters. The relevant committee created the draft. It has been sent to the Armed Forces Division for approval. Other ministries are also reviewing it.
Mr. Rahman highlighted the capabilities of the Chinese-made J-10CE. He said the aircraft showed strong performance in real combat situations. He compared them favorably to advanced 4.5-generation fighters.
The adviser also noted that Chinese fighter jets are cheaper. They cost less than similar quality European models like the Rafale or Eurofighter Typhoon. He expressed hope that the government will ensure national defense.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho was present. State Minister for Information Yaser Khan Chowdhury also attended. Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana and Chief Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed were there too. They were all at the press briefing.
