Bangladesh’s Energy Future Gets Boost from Qatar Pledge

Bangladesh has received a strong promise of support for its energy security. Qatar said it would provide all possible help. This is especially true during current global challenges. This important assurance came during a meeting in Doha, Qatar, this week. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman held talks with a top Qatari official. He met Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Their meeting took place on Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Rahman conveyed warm greetings from Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He shared these greetings with the Qatari leadership. The minister also expressed Bangladesh’s solid friendship with Qatar. He praised Qatar for its active and responsible role in the region. Qatar works to promote peace, security, and stability.

Sheikh Mohammed offered his congratulations to Mr. Rahman. He recognized Mr. Rahman’s election as president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Qatari Prime Minister reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment. He said Qatar would support Mr. Rahman in his new responsibilities. The two senior officials also held detailed discussions. They talked about strengthening bilateral cooperation between their two countries.

The Qatari Prime Minister described Bangladesh as a truly brotherly nation. He reiterated Qatar’s commitment to providing all possible support. This support is crucial for ensuring Bangladesh’s energy security. Following the productive talks, Foreign Minister Rahman extended an invitation. He asked Sheikh Mohammed to visit Bangladesh at a suitable time for both leaders.

Later the same day, Foreign Minister Rahman held another meeting. He met with Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi. Mr. Al-Muraikhi serves as Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. They discussed several matters of shared interest and cooperation.

A high-level delegation from Bangladesh attended the main talks. This included Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, the Prime Minister’s Finance and Planning adviser. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit was also present. Humaiun Kobir, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, joined the discussions. Senior officials from both Bangladesh and Qatar were part of these important meetings.
