Big Exam Shift Possible: 2027 SSC Dates May Move to March

Hundreds of thousands of students in Bangladesh prepare for their most important public exams each year. The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination for 2027 might take place in March. This is a change from the earlier plan to hold it in January.

Education authorities are now thinking about the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr. They are also listening to what parents have said. Officials are discussing starting the exams around mid-March.

A high-ranking official from the education department confirmed this on Wednesday. They said holding the exams in March is very possible. This is because of religious observances and feedback from families. Ramadan is expected to begin in the second week of February next year. This means the SSC exams would happen after Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr finish. However, no final decision has been made yet.

In May, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan spoke about possible exam dates. He announced a temporary schedule at a press conference. The 2027 SSC exams were planned for January 7 to February 6. The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams were set for June 6 to July 13.

Normally, students take the SSC exams after finishing tenth grade. The same system is used for the HSC exams. Historically, SSC exams started in early February. HSC exams then began in early April. The Covid-19 pandemic changed this schedule.

In 2026, the SSC exams started on April 21. The HSC exams began in July that year. The education department wants to bring the school year back on track. They first suggested holding the 2027 exams in December. But many people did not agree with this plan. After meetings, the department planned for a January start for SSC. The HSC exams were planned for June.

Currently, primary and secondary school years run from January to December. Higher secondary and university education start in July. Experts say Bangladesh needs the same national schedule for all education levels. This would ensure exam dates and results are always consistent.
