BNP Cabinet Sees Six New Ministers Sworn In
Six new ministers took their oath today for the BNP government cabinet. This event marks the first cabinet reshuffle for the current administration. The ceremony took place this evening at Bangabhaban.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the President, administered the oath. He first swore in four new full ministers. Then, he administered the oath to two new state ministers.
Abdul Moyeen Khan was sworn in as a full minister. He is a senior member of the BNP Standing Committee. Sources suggest Mr. Khan will lead the Local Government Ministry. President Mirza Fakhrul had previously held this ministry.
Andaleeve Rahman Partho also took oath as a full minister. Mr. Partho chairs the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP). He is expected to take charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The current Information Minister, Zahir Uddin Swapon, is becoming an adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Rasheduzzaman Millat was another to take the oath as a full minister. Mr. Millat was previously a state minister. He is set to become the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism. The ministry’s current head, Afroza Khanam (Rita), may move to a different role.
Saching Prue Jeri, a Member of Parliament, also joined as a full minister. Mr. Jeri is a member of the BNP Executive Committee. He is expected to lead the Ministry for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.
Two leaders joined as state ministers. Humayun Kabir, an adviser for foreign affairs to the Prime Minister, took oath. Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln, a Member of Parliament, was also sworn in. Mr. Lincoln is expected to be the State Minister for the Ministry of Religious Affairs. These changes aim to strengthen the government’s work.
