Dhaka Launches New Digital Tool to Boost Climate Action
Over 500 climate leaders and experts gathered in Dhaka this week. They met for the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership Knowledge Conference 2026. The two-day event started on October 7. It aims to speed up Bangladesh’s national plan to adapt to climate change. It also focuses on reaching Bangladesh’s climate goals.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change organized the conference. The Asian Development Bank also supported it. A major event on the first day was the launch of the BCDP Web Portal. A Climate Solutions Exhibition also opened.
This new digital platform will help track climate projects. It will manage data and connect different groups. This will make it easier to get climate investments, both from Bangladesh and other countries. The conference also strengthens the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership. This partnership helps gather money for climate projects. It also decides how to use these funds and links them with national policies.
Abdul Awal Mintoo, the Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, opened the event. He officially launched the BCDP Web Portal. The Minister said that today’s development choices will shape climate risks for many decades. He urged leaders to turn national plans into real projects with proper funding.
Minister Mintoo explained that climate adaptation projects help society. But they do not usually make money in the same way as business projects. He asked for climate finance to fit Bangladesh’s money plans. He also called for more private companies to invest in clean energy. The Minister stressed the importance of including women, youth, and disabled people in project design.
Satya Srinivas Lolla, from the Asian Development Bank, also spoke. He noted Bangladesh is leaving the group of Least Developed Countries. Yet, it remains open to climate risks. Mr. Lolla said the conference’s true success will come from actions and investments. These must follow the discussions.
He explained that the partnership aims to bring together money, expert knowledge, and strong teams. This will help Bangladesh move from planning to doing. Other key officials like Sheikh Faridul Islam, State Minister, also attended.
The first day included three main discussion sessions. These sessions looked at how to grow the economy while facing climate risks. They also discussed how to implement the National Adaptation Plan. Another session explored ways to combine public and private money for climate goals. The conference concludes on October 8 with more detailed working sessions. These sessions will focus on making climate investments safer and creating new project plans.
