Police on Tuesday detained a 25-year-old madrasah teacher in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia following allegations of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old student multiple times.

The detainee has been identified as Md Mostafizur Rahman, head teacher at Taloa Hafezia Madrasah and Lillah Boarding in Sadki union. Rahman is the son of Abdur Rahman from Harinakundu upazila in neighboring Jhenaidah district.Incident and Escalation

According to police, local residents, and the victim’s family:

The Alleged Assault: The incident reportedly occurred on July 12, while most senior students were away for examinations, leaving only a few younger children on campus.

Public Discovery: The allegations surfaced publicly on Tuesday after another student was reportedly beaten during a discussion regarding the incident, drawing a crowd of concerned local residents to the madrasah.

Attempted Mediation: In the afternoon, the madrasah management committee convened a meeting in an apparent attempt to arbitrate the matter internally.Alerted by local residents about the informal settlement attempt, a team from Kumarkhali Police Station arrived at the scene around 5:15 PM and took Rahman into custody.

Official Statements and Legal Action

The victim’s father alleged that his son had been subjected to repeated sexual abuse and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.

While the madrasah committee’s president, Md Zulfikar Mahmud, acknowledged holding a meeting after learning of the allegations, he claimed the facts remained unclear. The accused teacher denied all charges.Police authorities, however, took immediate exception to the attempted arbitration.”There is no legal scope to resolve allegations of such a severe nature through local arbitration,” said Jamal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station. “Upon receiving information, we promptly detained the teacher. Preliminary investigations suggest the allegations are grounded. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
