Mirza Abbas Returns to Parliament, Pledges to Serve Constituents
Mirza Abbas, a Member of Parliament from Dhaka-8 constituency, returned to the Jatiya Sangsad today. He attended the session after a long absence. The BNP lawmaker had been away for five and a half months. He received medical treatment abroad during this time.
Mr. Abbas had suffered from a stroke. He traveled to Singapore and Malaysia for his recovery. Today marked his first time participating in a parliamentary session since his treatment began. He arrived at the parliament building in a wheelchair.
During his speech, Mr. Abbas expressed his deep hope. He wished to work for the welfare of the people in his constituency. “I am praying to Almighty Allah for my full recovery,” he said. He wants to serve his area with greater dedication and focus.
The BNP lawmaker expressed gratitude to many people. He thanked the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir-Bikram. He also thanked all other Members of Parliament for standing by him. Their support meant a lot to him.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir-Bikram greeted Mr. Abbas warmly. Mr. Abbas was seated in the front row of the opposition benches. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was present during the session. Opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman also attended.
Mr. Abbas thanked President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He also extended gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He shared that both the President and the Prime Minister regularly inquired about his health condition. This personal care touched him deeply.
The Speaker, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir-Bikram, even visited Mr. Abbas in Singapore. “Such a humane and sincere attitude deeply touched my heart,” Mr. Abbas said. He added that he would never forget their love and sincerity. He called this kindness a shining example of parliamentary democracy.
Mr. Abbas mentioned that his medical treatment is still not fully complete. Despite this, he felt able to join the parliament session. He thanked Almighty Allah for making his return possible. He also remembered Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia with deep respect.
