Police Thwart Bomb Threat After Explosive Device Found in Ashulia Shop
Police in Ashulia, Savar, have prevented a serious incident. They found a dangerous explosive device inside a travel bag. The bag was left at a grocery shop. A special police unit safely defused the bomb on Friday morning.
The incident started on Thursday night at 9:30 PM. A man with a face mask came into a grocery shop. He bought a soft drink. The man gave a Tk200 note. The shopkeeper left to get change from another shop. When he returned, the customer had disappeared. He left a locked travel bag behind.
The shopkeeper waited for a long time. The man did not come back for the bag. So, the shopkeeper told local people about it. They opened the bag. Inside, they saw a pressure cooker wrapped in tape. They thought it could be dangerous. Ashulia police station was then informed.
Police officers arrived quickly at the Charabag area. They made the area safe. They also checked the bag. Officers confirmed that the pressure cooker held explosive materials. Senior police officials were immediately told about this discovery.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Bomb Disposal Unit then took charge. On Friday morning, around 6:30 AM, they moved the device. It was taken to an open field nearby. There, they safely defused the bomb. This removed any danger to the public.
Mohammad Tariqul Islam is the Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia police station. He said a legal case has been filed. This case is under the Explosive Substances Control Act. Mr. Islam confirmed that police are working to find the person. They want to arrest the individual who left the bag at the shop.
