Second Chance: How Thousands Affected by Weather Will Retake Crucial Exams

Thousands of students across Bangladesh who faced severe weather disruptions during their crucial HSC and equivalent examinations will now have a second opportunity to sit for their missed tests. Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced this special arrangement on Wednesday, offering a lifeline to those impacted by heavy rainfall and other unavoidable circumstances.

The Minister confirmed that students unable to attend their scheduled examinations due to the adverse weather conditions will be permitted to take the missed papers at a later date. Importantly, they will use the same question papers originally prepared for the postponed examinations under the Chattogram Education Board. This decision aims to ensure fairness and continuity for affected candidates.

The recent spell of heavy rainfall and bad weather significantly impacted five districts under the Chattogram Board: Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, and Bandarban. While the majority of the nation’s 1,270,583 candidates were unaffected, isolated incidents of students missing exams due to downpours were also reported in Dhaka and other regions.

In addition to the re-take option, the Education Minister addressed another critical issue: errors found in the Physics First Paper. He stated that all students would receive full marks for two incorrect questions, specifically questions 6 and 7, in that paper.

Accountability for these errors has already been established. The officials responsible for creating the flawed Physics First Paper have been suspended. Minister Milon highlighted that these measures were taken to support students’ academic journeys, recognizing the vital role HSC examinations play in their future.
