Tanzid’s Historic Hundred Puts Bangladesh in Control of Australia Test
Tanzid Hasan made history on Friday. He became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score a Test century in Australia. His excellent batting helped Bangladesh take control of the first Test match in Darwin. Bangladesh reached 351 runs for 6 wickets by the end of the second day. This gave them a lead of 153 runs over Australia.
Tanzid scored a superb 101 runs. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also played well, scoring an entertaining 84 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was not out on 32 runs at stumps. Hasan Mahmud was with him on 13 runs. They formed a strong 40-run partnership.
Australian opener Jake Weatherald praised the Bangladesh team. He said they batted very well. He also noted that the pitch seemed to have changed. He said it looked like a good surface for batting. Bangladesh is trying to win their first Test match in Australia.
This was only Tanzid’s second Test match. The 25-year-old batsman showed great skill against the Australian bowlers. He was dropped by Steve Smith when he was on 62 runs. Tanzid then continued to score. He reached his century with a shot through mid-off. He took 188 balls to reach 100 runs. His innings included eight fours and one big six.
Tanzid got out soon after scoring his hundred. He tried to hit another six but was caught. Earlier, Bangladesh started the day well at 96 runs for 1 wicket. They had bowled Australia out for 198 runs on the first day.
Tanzid and Mominul Haque batted patiently through the first hour. Tanzid reached his half-century before the first drinks break. Mominul looked set for his half-century too. However, he was caught behind by the wicketkeeper Alex Carey on 49 runs. Their partnership added 102 runs for Bangladesh.
Captain Najmul then joined Tanzid. They scored runs quickly against a tired Australian bowling attack. Mushfiqur Rahim also batted aggressively with his captain. But Australia used the second new ball well. They took three quick wickets. Najmul, Mushfiqur, and Litton Das all got out cheaply. Steve Smith took all three catches at second slip. This equaled a world record for most catches by a fielder in Tests.
Australia hoped to finish Bangladesh’s innings quickly. But Mehidy and Hasan batted strongly until the end of the day. They pushed Bangladesh’s lead past 150 runs.
