US Vice President Questions ‘War’ Status of Iran Conflict Amid Rising Deaths
The conflict involving Iran has caused many deaths. Over six months, at least 18 US soldiers have died. Thousands of people in Iran and Lebanon also lost their lives. On Thursday, US Vice President JD Vance said he does not call this a “war.”
His comments come as President Donald Trump’s government seeks to move past the conflict. Vice President Vance told reporters there is no active shooting now. He admitted some fighting had happened. But he said major combat lasted only six weeks after February 28.
Vice President Vance stated he does not know when the fighting will end. He said Iran must stop attacking ships. The United States will not restart talks until then. Fuel costs are a big concern for President Trump’s Republican party. They face important elections soon for Congress.
The administration now claims oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz is better. This waterway is vital for global oil markets. Vice President Vance said Iran’s control over the Strait is “effectively gone.” He stated oil and gas shipments are almost back to normal levels.
President Trump’s approval ratings are low. He had promised to avoid foreign wars. This conflict with Iran has become a difficult problem.
Last week, President Trump posted a photo saying “Mission Accomplished.” He is reportedly discussing ending the Iran conflict with advisors. Yet, Iran launched new attacks on Thursday. It said it hit US military bases in Kuwait and the UAE. Iran blamed the US for a recent wedding strike.
Vice President Vance said the US is investigating the wedding incident. He doubted reports from Iranian state media. The Iranian Red Crescent reported four people died in the wedding attack. This included a child. Over 50 people were also hurt in Kuhestak, Iran.
