Army Rescues Hundreds of Tourists Stranded by Floods in Sajek Valley
Hundreds of tourists are safe after being rescued from a flood-affected area in Bangladesh. Heavy rains and flash floods trapped about 561 tourists in Sajek Valley, Rangamati. The Bangladesh Army stepped in to help.
Flooding submerged parts of the main road, making it impossible for tourists to leave. Roads at Machalong and Baghaihat Bazar were particularly affected. The situation left many tourists stranded for days.
The army organized a special rescue operation. Soldiers used boats and bamboo rafts to help tourists cross the flooded sections of the road. This allowed them to reach safer areas.
The rescue happened in two phases. On Thursday, about 150 tourists, including children, men, and women, were evacuated. Those with urgent travel plans were given priority.
The remaining 411 tourists were rescued on Friday morning. They were then transported to safe locations by the army.
Local officials and tourism leaders confirmed that all stranded tourists have now been safely evacuated. The Sajek Cottage and Resort Owners’ Association thanked the army for their swift and effective assistance. The rescue effort ensured the safety of all visitors caught in the floods.
