Bangladesh scored 317 runs for 8 wickets on the first day. This was during their one-off cricket Test match against Afghanistan. The game is taking place in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Three Bangladeshi batsmen scored half-centuries, helping the team.
Openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Shadman Islam gave Bangladesh a strong start. Wicket-keeper Litton Das also played well. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss. He decided for Bangladesh to bat first.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored 83 runs very quickly from 71 balls. Shadman Islam made 67 runs. Litton Das added 53 runs to the total. These early contributions were vital for Bangladesh.
Afghanistan’s bowlers used many short balls. They hoped to trouble the Bangladeshi batsmen with this tactic. But Tanzid Hasan Tamim played aggressively. He hit the ball hard and kept the runs flowing for Bangladesh. The first partnership reached 124 runs.
Afghan bowler Ismat Alam took the first wicket. He dismissed Tanzid Hasan Tamim with a short delivery. The ball edged to the wicket-keeper. Mominul Haque then joined Shadman Islam at the crease. They built a 60-run partnership together.
Mohammad Saleem, another Afghan fast bowler, then took Shadman Islam’s wicket. Shadman was also dismissed by a short ball. Yamin Ahmadzai then caused more trouble for Bangladesh. He dismissed Mominul Haque for 29 runs. He also removed Mushfiqur Rahim for no runs just three balls later.
The situation became more difficult for Bangladesh. Leg-spinner Qais Ahmed got Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto out. Bangladesh lost three wickets very quickly, for only 18 runs. Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz then worked to repair the damage. They formed a valuable 62-run partnership.
But Afghanistan kept fighting back. Ismat Alam returned and took Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s wicket. Mohammad Saleem was the best bowler for Afghanistan on this day. He took 3 wickets for 70 runs. He later dismissed Litton Das and Hasan Mahmud in five balls.
Bangladesh looked like they might get all out. But Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam showed strong resistance. They denied Afghanistan any further wickets before stumps. Nayeem Hasan was batting on 11 runs. Taijul Islam was on 4 runs when the day ended.
