Thousands of Bangladeshi Workers to Find Jobs in Malaysia, 10,000 Offered Free
The Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry announced new job opportunities today. Bangladeshi workers can now apply for jobs in Malaysia. This recruitment process will be managed through registered recruiting agencies.
Workers must also complete health checks. These checks will be done at authorized medical centers. The Ministry shared this important information in a press release.
Bangladesh and Malaysia signed an agreement on December 18, 2022. Under this agreement, Malaysia’s Ministry of Human Resources chooses and registers recruiting agencies. Malaysia has its own rules for all countries that send workers.
During the previous interim government, Malaysia began checking agencies’ qualifications. Malaysian officials later made some conditions easier. Bangladesh then sent a list of 423 agencies to Malaysia.
The current government took office and made reopening the Malaysian job market a top goal. The Prime Minister himself made his first foreign visit to Malaysia. The government wants workers to find jobs through legal and qualified agencies. It aims to protect workers’ interests and keep costs low.
Malaysian authorities have registered Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL). BOESL is Bangladesh’s only government recruiting agency. Malaysia also registered 25 private agencies to help with processing. Furthermore, 312 more recruiting agencies have received approval to work.
These registered agencies can now find employers in Malaysia. They can collect job demand letters. They can also select workers in Bangladesh and manage the recruitment process according to rules.
In a major step, the Malaysian authorities have agreed to accept 10,000 Bangladeshi workers completely free of cost. This decision followed a special request from the Bangladesh government. This is a very important development for overseas employment from Bangladesh.
The recruitment process will happen in stages. First, approved agencies will collect job demand letters from Malaysia. Second, these agencies will select workers in Bangladesh. Third, official steps like visa processing will be done. BOESL and the 25 processing agencies will help with this.
Finally, agencies will get clearance from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training (BMET). Any registered agency can do this. BOESL and the 25 processing agencies will issue special certificates for this clearance.
The Ministry emphasized creating new jobs. However, workers should not pay too much money for these jobs. The government wants the cheapest, safest, and clearest process for workers going to Malaysia. Recruiting agencies must follow laws and protect workers’ rights.
Approving medical centers for health checks is still ongoing. Bangladesh and Malaysia are working together on this. Bangladesh asked to change the list of existing medical centers. A team from Malaysia will visit Bangladesh to inspect each center. They will give final approval after inspection.
For now, medical centers listed on the Malaysian website will start activities. Bangladeshi authorities regularly check these centers. If any problems are found, Bangladesh will close those medical centers. Any new medical centers will be added to the website.
