Madushanka Masterclass Ends England’s Tri-Series Dream
Sri Lanka achieved a significant eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in a cricket match held in Lahore on Tuesday. This crucial result ended England’s hopes of reaching the tri-series final. The match saw a career-best performance from Sri Lankan pace bowler Dilshan Madushanka.
Dilshan Madushanka, a left-arm bowler, was outstanding. He took five wickets for just 34 runs. His strong bowling dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup. Spinner Sahan Arachchige also supported him well, taking two wickets for 24 runs.
Pakistan was put in to bat first and struggled heavily. They were dismissed for a very low total of 110 runs in only 25.3 overs. This score marked Pakistan’s second-lowest one-day international total at home against Sri Lanka. Pakistan captain Babar Azam was their top scorer with 29 runs.
Madushanka started Pakistan’s batting collapse. He dismissed opener Fakhar Zaman for five runs in the fourth over. He later took key wickets, including Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. These efforts ensured Pakistan failed to set a challenging target.
Sri Lankan batters chased the small total with ease and speed. They reached 111 runs in just 18.1 overs. Kamindu Mendis led the chase powerfully, scoring an unbeaten 62 runs from 60 balls. He hit eight fours and two sixes. Pavan Rathnayake also remained unbeaten with 23 runs.
Sri Lanka’s captain, Kusal Mendis, praised his bowlers. He said they executed their plans well, and Madushanka bowled superbly. Pakistan’s captain, Shaheen Afridi, stated his team must forget this match. He added they would prepare to bat stronger for the final.
This victory is Sri Lanka’s second win in three games. It proved enough to remove England from the competition. England had lost earlier matches from winning positions. Pakistan had already secured their spot in Sunday’s final with three wins. The upcoming match on Thursday between Sri Lanka and England will now be a “dead rubber.” Its result will not affect who plays in the final.
