Widespread Rain to Blanket Bangladesh for Four Days
Bangladesh is expected to see heavy rain across the country for the next four days. This forecast comes from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). The rain will last from Wednesday, August 5, until Saturday, August 8. The monsoon system is now very active over Bangladesh.
Light to moderate rain is likely in most areas. This includes Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Some places will also get moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall. This means a lot of water will fall in those areas.
Temperatures will change during this period. Day and night temperatures will drop slightly on Wednesday and Thursday. They will stay almost the same on Friday. Then, temperatures will rise a little on Saturday and Sunday.
Meteorologists explain that a monsoon trough is causing this weather. This trough stretches from Rajasthan in India, across northern Bangladesh, to Assam. It also reaches into the North Bay. The monsoon remains active over Bangladesh. It is moderate over the North Bay.
Rainfall was already heavy in some parts of Bangladesh. In the past 24 hours, Srimangal recorded 94 millimeters of rain. Sylhet received 88 millimeters. Chandpur saw 83 millimeters, and Bandarban had 80 millimeters. Tetulia received 73 millimeters, Hatiya 72 millimeters, and Netrokona 71 millimeters. Cox’s Bazar also got 67 millimeters of rain.
After the initial four days, rainfall is expected to reduce a little. Showers are still likely in many places. These include Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet. Other areas like Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram may see fewer showers. However, some isolated heavy rain can still happen. The BMD will continue to watch the weather closely.
